Ladder #1Ladder 1

On February 8, 2007 the City of Albany placed in service a new one hundred foot tractor drawn aerial ladder. This new apparatus was built by “Pierce Manufacturing’ of Appleton Wisconsin.

Mayor Jerry Jennings and Chief Robert Forezzi inspected the new vehicle in front of City Hall during a short ceremony. After the inspection and acceptance Ladder #1 was officially placed in service. Ladder #1 is stationed at Morton Avenue and South Pearl Street in the South End Station along with Engine #5 and the 1st Battalion.

The new Ladder is a one hundred foot, steel, heavy-duty ladder. The aerial device has a pre-piped waterway, with a remote controlled, adjustable nozzle. The vehicle also has an independent front suspension with gives a smoother ride and saves wear on tires and brakes. Ladder #1 carries a full compliment of ground ladders, hydraulic rescue tools, power saws, gas detection equipment, and all of the standard truck company forcible entry and overhaul tools.
