Foreclosure Prevention

Are you a homeowner at risk of foreclosure? Do you know someone who might be at risk? If you are having trouble making your mortgage payments it is very important that you act quickly to reach out for the help you need. The longer you wait, the fewer options you may have to avoid foreclosure. There are services to assist homeowners during this difficult time.

The City of Albany, in conjunction with the Capital District HomeSave Coalition and the NYS Attorney General’s Office, would like to help connect any homeowners facing difficulties with their mortgage with FREE assistance. If you have received legal papers from your lender, a Foreclosure Summons and Complaint, or a notice of a settlement conference from the Supreme Court, you may be eligible for the following assistance:

  1. Free representation by an attorney who specializes in foreclosure prevention from either The Legal Project (518-435-1770) or the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (1-800-462-2922) or
  2. Free assistance from the Affordable Housing Partnership, a non-profit housing counseling agency that can help you work with your lender (518-434-1730).
Please ACT NOW. The sooner you get assistance, the more options you have available to you. Please reach out to the organizations listed above, the New York State Attorney General’s office at 1-855-466-3456, or give the City of Albany a call at the number at the bottom of the page. No family in the City of Albany should have to fight for their home alone. We can help.
