ALBANY, NY – On Monday July 27, the City of Albany began improvements to the walking trail at the Tivoli Lake Preserve, a highly anticipated enhancement that was identified in the 2014 Tivoli Lake Preserve Visioning Plan. The nearly one-mile accessible trail will connect visitors from the Livingston Avenue Preserve entrance and parking lot to Tivoli Lake and the newly day-lit Patroon Creek.
“I am excited for these improvements to the Tivoli Lake Preserve which will provide residents and visitors with enhanced access to this important outdoor recreation area located in the heart of the West Hill Neighborhood,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “The completion of this trail coupled with the recently day-lit Patroon Creek will further revitalize this vital community resource in our City.”
This project will also include upgraded lighting and accessibility features to the parking lot off of Livingston Avenue. The parking lot will be closed for construction through September of 2020 when the majority of the work is scheduled for completion. Tivoli Lake Preserve visitors will be rerouted to the N. Manning Blvd. Preserve entrance located off of Northern Blvd..
About Tivoli Lake Preserve
The Tivoli Lake Preserve is a landmark outdoor recreational outlet in the West Hill Neighborhood. The preserve includes over 70-acres of upland forest, grassy fields and wetlands. On the northern border of the Preserve is Patroon Creek, a long tributary to the Hudson River that was recently day-lit by the Albany Water Department after decades of being buried underground. The 2014 Preserve Visioning Study identified day-lighting the Patroon Creek and improved trails as priority projects. The City of Albany partners with the Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm, visit Friends of Tivoli.
The City of Albany would like to thank our project partner New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a five-year $1.25 million grant that has helped manage Invasive Species, develop this trail, and support the Friends of Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm.
